According to the latest Industry Status Report 2023 released by the China Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), flexible packaging has achieved significant growth in total sales due to its advantages of portability, repeatable sealing, and good protection. From 2020 to 2024, the compound annual growth rate of total sales of flexible packaging in the United States reached 12.1%, surging from $34.8 billion to $39 billion.
The chairman of Longdapac who is the leading 100% recyclable mono-material PE pouches company in China said: “The main reason behind the substantial growth of sales of flexible packaging in China is that during the COVID-19, consumers were more inclined to online shopping, and e-commerce promoted the expansion of demand in the Chinese flexible packaging market. Although the epidemic gradually turned smoothly, this trend will continue.”
According to the 2023 Industry Status Report released by FPA, 90% of 100% recyclable flexible packaging uses roto-gravure printing, ranking first among many printing methods. With the development of technology, rotogravure printing has gradually optimized in terms of printing speed, printing quality, printing automation, etc., and its market advantages are very significant.
Although digital printing has developed rapidly in other packaging sub sectors, it has a relatively low proportion in the field of flexible packaging production. It is worth noting that the survey results of FPA report show that the digital printing usage rate of Chinese flexible packaging printing enterprises is on the rise, with about 19% of printing enterprises indicating that they have started to adopt digital printing technology in the production of flexible packaging. Although digital printing has a relatively low share in the total production of flexible packaging printing, this technology has enormous market potential due to its advantages of fast printing speed and short printing cycle.
