Recyclable flexible packaging in Australia & New Zealand

For all packaging that is made, used and sold in Australia, the Australian industry and government set the 2025 National Packaging Targets as below:

  • 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging
  • 70% of plastic packaging being recycled or composted.
  • 30% of average recycled content included in packaging.
  • The phase out of problematic and unnecessary single use plastics packaging.

The 2025 Targets are not easy at all cause the current status in Australia is as below:

  • Australian people use 3.5 million tons of plastics each year.
  • One million tons of single use plastic is used each year.
  • 80% of plastic is sent to landfill and only 15% is recycled.
  • About 150,000 tons of plastics are throw into ocean each year.
  • Australian people use 80 billion flexible packaging bags each year.

When you look at all these numbers you can see it is very difficult to reach 2025 Target. And the most important part is recyclable flexible packaging. With the limitation of recycling facilities in Australia, and the most of the high barrier flexible packaging are not recyclable in Australia, so the recycling ratio is very low.

But we Longdapac is successfully developed recyclable high barrier transparent flexible packaging; this will guarantee the quality of the packaging, and easily recycled by recycling facilities.

We are working REDcycle in Australia who is working to help building a more sustainable packaging future in Australia and we are happy to be partner with them. On our custom print bags, our customer can put their logo on the bag, and put Australasian Recycling Label ( ARL) on the bag too.

And we are working with Soft plastic in New Zealand for recycling flexible packaging project.

Which means all of our high barrier flexible packaging used in coffee bag, tea bag, snack bag, pet food bag, daily product bag, food packaging etc. are recyclable in Australia, and the Australasian Recycling Label ( ARL) will be ok to put on the bag. We hope we can help Australia to reach the 2025 National Packaging Target.
